Frascati has always been Rome’s most famous wine, both in Italy and in the rest of the world. It is possibly the wine with the longest historical tradition.
One only needs to mention that the wine from mount Tusculum, a sort of natural terrace over the capital overlooking the hills where Frascati is now produced, was already popular among Ancient Romans. Even later in history, Frascati was defined as the “land of princes” while the wine bearing the same name was appreciated by both “popes and poets”. Frascati was made particularly prominent on the papal tables by pope Paul III (1534-1549), who, before being nominated Pope, was bishop of Frascati.
The great German writer Goethe, while sojourning in Rome in 1816 defined Frascati as a “paradise”.
The hilly territory on which the typical grape varieties of Frascati are grown is of volcanic origin, thus rich in minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium but poor in nitrogen. It is the ideal substratum for the cultivation of the vine and for the production of wines of high sensorial quality.

The mild climate contributes to the excellent quality of the produce: winters are never too harsh and during the summer the heat is mitigated by the sea winds; precipitations are moderate and mostly concentrated in spring.
